LESSONS FROM NKEM: DRESSING

Before meeting Nkem, I randomly dressed. I would wear anything... as long as it fit me. Also, I rarely went shopping for new outfits or shoes.

Nkem taught me how to be intentional about my outfits. Nkem taught me how to wear full suits; and not broken ones (Sorry Nkem, I know I was stubborn about not wearing full suits but now I know and see what you meant). Thank you for being patient with me.

Nkem taught me how to get out of my comfort zone and wear current fashion outfits. Nkem intentionally took me out to shop for new outfits and shoes. I know it was not easy to get me out of the house to shop for outfits but Nkem did it. 

I am forever grateful to Nkem for teaching me this invaluable lesson. Nkem saved me a lot of money which I would have spent on a personal stylists. Now I know.

LESSONS FROM NKEM: LOVE

 

From Nkem, I learned how to love and to be loved deeply. I have never experienced such kind of deep love in my life before. It is the kind of love that I cannot explain. Such love can only be experienced. It can only be felt. 

I learned to connect with Nkem so deeply such that I would feel when Nkem is not okay without Nkem telling me that they are not okay... and I would call Nkem at such a moment and indeed they would let me know that they are going through something. Oh! It was deep; deeper than deep. I just cannot explain.

Beyond the deep feelings for love and affection, I learned to love through being selfless.

I learned to consider my partner's interests when I am away; to buy things with my partner in mind. Before Nkem, I would just go on a trip or excursion and return as I went. Upon spending time with Nkem, I learned to carry something home for my partner, or for both of us. I also learned to mind my partner's interests and feelings. 

From Nkem, I learned to be intentional about my partner's interests: what does my partner like? What can I do to make my partner happy? I learned to get out of my way to make my partner happy. This means cooking my partner's favourite meal, handling a task for my partner (probably something they do not like), or just doing something random to make my partner's life easy. 

Nkem loved me, this I know. I loved Nkem. Deeply.
